Flotilla Environmental Time Lapse Installation

Flotilla is the on site installation, part of my project for the Art(IS)LAND exhibition. The community engaged component was called Ocean Flotilla and gathered together messages of hope from the local to international level both on site and through this blog.

Flotilla as an ephemeral time lapse environmental installation combines willow, water and seeds with recycled natural materials some of which are manufactured such as used salt licks. 
There was 3 layers of time lapse activity incorporated into the design. 
First was the dissolution/ process of turning carved salt fish into salt water, pictured here:

The second was the seed bomb planted in the heart of the organic figure that over time sprouted edible vegetation, pictured here:

The third was designed as a sundial that didn’t indicate minutes and hours but each day scanned past(history) present(here) and future, using the shadow of the willow boat as the arm of the sundial scanning across text on river rocks. The text is “history ebbs from here flows the future”.  Pictured below:
